The Romani

"I dreamed I was a gypsy traveling at night under a full moon in a painted wagon filled with curious things." 

Inspired by Romani culture this tellurian orrery shows the relationship of the earth, moon and the sun. This model includes a number of brass accents, a canvas faceplate of a celestial map, a beautiful glass "moon" rotating around a large antiqued earth and all sorts of surprising details. It would make a fabulous gift and has a special introductory price. These are big showy pieces with faux metallic and burled wood or leather-looking accents. The feet are brass claw feet with faces. While no two are exactly alike, they are similar, and are hand created in a 14-step process using glazes we personally have developed. These will be limited due to the extraordinary amount of time and effort needed to create them.

These are fully functional. The sun lights up. The gears move the earth and moon around the sun. It is not electrified. These are plastic models (small amount of metal and wood) which have been painted to look brass, copper and wood. (Genuine wood and metal orrerys are available online but cost upwards of thousands of dollars.) This started out as a students model to illustrate the earths rotation around the sun and the moons rotation around the earth. It is 16.5 inches across and approximately 12.5" tall which means it is a big showy piece. We do not consider this a toy for anyone under the age of 12. This is not metal, though we would defy you to definitely distinguish metal and wood from our faux finishes, nor is this a fine scientific instrument. The base is weighted so it has a bit of a heft when lifting. This is a functional, kinetic art object which is guaranteed to be the first thing that someone admires when coming into a room.
